Our Staff Team

We have an incredible staff family here with Cru at Virginia Tech. These men and women serve to ensure that every Hokie has an opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel. You can read a little about them here, but they would love to meet you in person at some of our Cru events on campus.

Bryan Worrall

Bryan has been serving with Cru since 2009, both overseas and here at Virginia Tech. He stepped into the campus director role in 2018. Bryan and his wife Erin have four children and enjoy raising animals and food on their small farm. Bryan enjoys reading, soccer, and eating Chinese food.

Rebecca Lansford

Rebecca graduated from Virginia Tech in 2013 with a degree in Political Science. She has been serving with Cru since then and stepped into the campus director role in 2018. She loves being a Blacksburg townie and working with the amazing students at Virginia Tech, to reach the campus with the Gospel. Rebecca enjoys going on adventures, all things Johnny Depp, a good cup of coffee, and teaching spin classes.

Trey Moore

Trey graduated from Virginia Tech in 2013 with his degree in engineering science and mechanics. While he grew up elsewhere in southwest Virginia, he has now found his true home in Blacksburg, Virginia and loves helping students find deep Christian community and grow in their love for Jesus. Trey’s wife Rebecca is not on staff with Cru, but works as a veterinarian in Roanoke, Virginia. Trey and Rebecca met during undergrad at VT, were married in 2015, and now live in Riner with their daughter Gracie and dog Mae.

Betsy Wheeler

Betsy Wheeler has served with Cru for 12 years, 10 of those years with Valor at Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, VMI, and overseeing the Mid-Atlantic region. Two of Betsy's greatest callings are helping students deepen their faith in Jesus and fostering a desire to live as lifelong missionaries for the Gospel in every sector of society and around the world. Another of her loves is teaching Bible and theology, and she's always ready for a theological discussion. But her greatest love of all is knowing God personally. Theology is great, but knowing God intimately and not just the things about Him is far greater.

Mike & Linda Montgomery

Mike and Linda Montgomery were high school sweethearts who married in 1970 and spent their next 23 years moving around the world as an Air Force family. In 2005, they joined Cru Military staff, applying their military experience and love for God’s word to minister to active duty families. Mike and Linda transitioned to Cru Valor at Virginia Tech in 2017, focusing on discipling ROTC cadets and developing outreach to military veterans returning to campuses. They are the parents of two married children and, if asked, are sure to tell you about their 10 grandchildren.

Evan Rogers

Evan graduated in December of 2022 with a Bachelor's in Elementary and Special Education. He is serving as a first year intern, but hopes to transition to full time staff next year! Evan loves being active (hiking, weight lifting, and all of the sports) and all things Boston (go Celtics)! He serves with fraternities and sororities through Greek Cru at Virginia Tech. He is most passionate and gifted with building relationships and then sharing the gospel with fraternity men who do not yet know Jesus!!! Currently, Evan is an advisor for Beta Upsilon Chi (BYX) and the Board of Trustees Chaplain for Alpha Tau Omega (ATO).

Don & Katrina Hines

Don & Katrina graduated from Bible college together and have been married since 2003.  Katrina taught 2nd grade and Don church planted for 10 years before they joined the Cru team at VT to focus on the cadet ministry in 2015.  They give leadership to Valor (Cru’s ROTC ministry).  They are passionate about helping young people launch into life with an eternal perspective. They also couldn’t be more proud of their kids and they all live out what it means to serve as a family.  They are both from Michigan and are big fans of “Lake Life.”  Don doesn’t just drink coffee, he roasts and crafts his own.  Katrina used to manage her own classroom as a teacher, now she manages her own crew as a homeschool mom.

Nevada Kershner

Nevada is a 2nd year intern, though he is in his 3rd year, with the Cru at Virginia Tech Staff team. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Human Development and Family Science. He spent his first year with the team as Part Time Field Staff, though he was essentially a redshirt intern. His favorite thing he has done with Cru was leading a vision trip to North Africa in January of 2024. He loves to travel, spend time with his friends, drink coffee, play pickleball, hammock, watch any and all VT sports, beat his disciples at everything he plays with them, and just be competitive in any way he can. After his 2nd intern year with Cru, he plans to join full time staff! His favorite quote is "Just because you're trash doesn't mean you can't succeed. It's called a garbage CAN, not a garbage cannot."

Utah Kershner

Utah graduated from Virginia Tech in May 2022 with a degree in Human Development. After two years interning with Cru at Virginia Tech, he is excited to return to Blacksburg to continue reaching Hokies with the gospel for the next season of his life. His favorite things are reading, watching Hokie Sports, traveling, spending time with friends, asking good questions, and his newest favorite activity, pickleball. He loves buying people coffee and talking about life and your walk with Jesus so feel free to ask him anytime.

Jennifer Smith

Jennifer graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 2021 with a Business degree concentrating in Human Resource Management. After graduation, Jennifer served with Cru for three years in Richmond and is joining us at Virginia Tech this fall! Her primary role is to reach students in sororities and fraternities for Jesus and help them learn how to walk with Him for a lifetime. In her free time, Jennifer loves to run, drink really good coffee, organize a new space, and bask in the sun!

Thomas Bracy

Thomas graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Civil Engineering in May 2024. He is back here at VT for graduate school where he will study structural engineering. While he completes his degree, he will be joining part time staff to disciple students in their faith and reach the campus through evangelism. Thomas loves any sport (will play Spikeball for hours), playing music, and good conversations.

Jonan Wilkin

Jonan, a Junior, is in his first year serving with Cru as Part-Time Field Staff. He is graduating with his Associates in Engineering in December 2024, as he begins his studies for a B.A. in Pastoral Ministry. Born and raised in Blacksburg to parents in full-time campus ministry, Jonan feels that VT has always been his school. Besides rooting for Tech at all the sporting events, Jonan loves getting together to read the Word and talk about Jesus with others, and playing an intense game of Ultimate Frisbee.
